Academic Project | Individual Work, 2017

Location: Yedikule, Istanbul Turkey

Supervisors: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tansel Korkmaz, Alisan Çırakoglu

The project site is located in Istanbul’s historical peninsula. Old building and gasometer remain on the project site are preserved so that the historical atmosphere of the site wouldn’t be disturbed. While protecting the ruined buildings at the project site, the designed project’s aim is, by providing social, cultural and sporting opportunities for young people, especially for those who live nearby, help their social development and strengthen their consciousness. Also apart from their development, their leisure time activities are also considered.

Old gasometer remain is designed as a building, because it not only has a special meaning to the people who live nearby, but also is landmark.

That is why while turning it into a building that contains art and dance classes and social activities, it was made sure that it can also work as a monument.
